Specially made Steel grit is used in cutting hard stones, such as granite as well as marble. The grit is used in large multi-blade frames which cut the blocks of granite or marble into thin slices.

The use of Steel grit in cutting operations was invented by Pometon, Italy and later adopted by various manufacturers.

Steel grits lead to enhanced production and better granite finish apart from lesser blade erosion for the same unit of production.
